Maravel is a hybrid variety obtained by crossing the European chestnut (Castanea Sativa) and the Japanese chestnut (Castanea crenata). It is not demanding on the soil. It forms an upright crown with moderate growth. It is resistant to leaf rust and ink disease. It blooms in the months of June-July. Begins fruiting after 4-5 years. after planting. Forms large ellipsoidal to triangular nuts with a shiny mahogany-brown skin. Fruits ripen in October. Plant height is between 1.60-2m.
