The Jelly palm is one of the cold hardiest palms with feather leaves. It grows very good with protection in Bulgaria.

When grown on a limestone soils with much watering, it may develop an iron deficiency and then needs application of iron sulfate.

This type of palm is a relative of coconut palms, but is also among the most cold-resistant palm species in the world. The fruits are actually miniature copies of coconuts. The outer shell is edible and has a very pleasant exotic taste, something like a combination of apricot and pineapple. They are very pleasant to eat, and can also be used to prepare unique jams.

These fruits are from a palm tree that grows outdoors and without protection in Asenovgrad, Bulgaria (USDA zone 8b). They are only available for a short time while ripening. They are picked every day and sent immediately, because the fruits are most delicious while they are fresh. THESE FRUITS MAY BE SPOILED BY THE TIME YOU RECEIVE THEM ANYWHERE IN EUROPE !!!

If you wish, you can sow the seeds of the fruit directly in the garden. They do not germinate until summer, but some of the seeds do not germinate until a few years later. They germinate in a pot after 4-8 months, if they are at least 28 degrees. If you are in a place with a mild winter in Southern Bulgaria, this type of palm will grow in your garden. Winter protection is needed in colder areas.
