Delonix regia, Royal Poinciana, Flamboyant

This is a beautiful subtropical tree. It is planted everywhere in areas with mild and frost-free winters, where it blooms profusely and whole trees are strewn with bright red flowers, hence the name of the plant. These trees form thick stems and the characteristic tropical plank roots, which is why they are especially suitable for bonsai.

When grown in pot, Delonix regia needs less water during the winter and needs to stay frost free. The leaves most often will fall off, but the new growth will start as soon as the spring warmth approaches.
