Elettaria cardamomum, bekannt als Kardamom, ist eine mehrjährige tropische Pflanze aus der Familie der Ingwergewächse (Zingiberaceae) und zählt zu den wertvollsten Gewürzpflanzen weltweit. Ursprünglich stammt sie aus den feuchten Wäldern Südindiens und Sri Lankas.

Die Kardamompflanze bildet aufrechte grüne Triebe sowie lange, lanzettliche Blätter mit intensivem Grünton. Bei optimalen Bedingungen entwickelt sie zarte Blüten, aus denen sich später die aromatischen Kardamomkapseln bilden. Diese Samen finden Verwendung in der Küche, in der Naturheilkunde und in der Kosmetik.
